
Economic Development
In 2004 an Economic Development Board was formed to spearhead progress and growth within the business and rural community of Wall Lake. The following individuals currently comprise the members of the Wall Lake Economic Development Board. They are: Norm Behrens, Esther Bielema, Chuck Brotherton, Bob Coil, Francis Riedel, Tom Schroeder., and Orlin Steinkamp.
Current Goals and Objectives: To energetically pursue and strengthen, on a continual basis, all social, economical and environmental issues within the Wall Lake Community.
WIE Receives Business of the Year Venture Award !!!
Iowa Area Development Group (IADAG) on behalf of Iowa's electric cooperatives and member municipal systems announced that Western Iowa Enery (Wall Lake) recently received the Outstanding Business of the Year Venture Award.
Over 650 Iowans are investor members of Western Iowa Energy. The new 30 million gallon bio-diesel plant will begin production in the first quarter of 2006 and be capable of using both soybean oil as well as other oils, animal fats and yellow grease in the dio-diesel production.
Proposed Building Site
The $40 million project will employ 25 people and will become the nation's largest multi-feedstock plant producing bio-diesel. Western Iowa Energy was nominated for the award by Sac County Rural Electric Cooperative.
According to Rand M. Fisher, IADG President, "The Iowa Venture Award has a proud history and it has become recognized as one of the state's premier buisness recognition program. We are grateful to have the opportunity to honor and recognize Iowa's Outstanding Companies. We also "Thank" these accomplished companies for their commitment to Iowa through capital investment and job creation."
In presenting this year's award - IA President Fisher said, "Iowa is witnessing the convergence of agriculture and energy. It is exciting to see Iowa entrepreneurs researching, building, owning and operating their own renewable fuel facility."
WIE was one of eleven Iowa businesses recognized for their significant contributions in diversifying and developing Iowa's economy. Other towns recognized were: Mount Pleasant, Iowa Falls, Albia, Pella, Sumner, Steamboat Rock, Preston, LeMars, Harlan, and Spencer.
